Ethics on the Path

Thru higher consciousness you do transcend morality.  But that implies
going above it, not below it.  There must be a HIGHER ETHIC.  This is called
"DHARMA" -- "action in accord with evolution".

If we are slipping, a correction is needed.  Few are so tuned to the Force of
Evolution that they can act spontaneously without self-discipline.  The path
seems to get more perilous the further one goes.  How many masters have
fallen, taken down by their own fame and ego!

Here are some ideas on the special kind of ETHIC I am talking about:

"4 Safety Ropes" to not slip from the higher path:
HUMILITY.  TOLERANCE.   NOT TO DEMAND RESPECT.   ALWAYS TO SHOW
    RESPECT.
Of course those persons living only on the superficial level will not like this.
They  "need their respect" and find humility humiliating.  These key values
apply for those following some kind of discipline.

    "Follow your Dharma"
Says the teaching of Krishna: "All persons follow their own nature.  What
can control do?  Better is one's own dharma though imperfectly done ... The
dharma of another brings danger.  Better is death in one's own dharma."

    "Be"
The master was asked how meditation would help one find one's place in
society,  he replied with great joy "BEING is your proper place in society".
And he talked of the Force of Evolution that would guide one on the right
    way.

    "The Path of Heart"
The Tantra says: "Fix your mind in your heart when engaged in worldly activity, thus
agitation will disappear and in a few days the indescribable will happen."

    "Shifting the Attention"
When having an unproductive thot, shift to its opposite.  Replace egocentric thots with
thots of unconditional love.  Notice something positive about the people you meet.  See
    god in others.

    "Drop Defensiveness"
I mean just stop rationalizing, resenting and making excuses for oneself.  Take
responsibility for what happens to us.  Be willing to hear the truth about ourself without
    back-talk..

    "Keep Good Company"
What your will power alone cannot overcome, thru the influence of good company you
can.  Good thots and good attitudes are the most important good company.

    "Avoid Alarming Conversation"
We know there are impending challenges out there.  But to allow your now powerful
mind to become a creative force in the world, stop dwelling on what you don't want
    manifested.   Stop creating anxiety.

    "Enlightened Self-interest".
The self-interest of the enlightened, who are the Self in all.  The far-reaching influence of
their actions benefit themselves and others simjultaneously.  Similar to the HONEY BEE,
whose dharma is to go for the flowers -- he feeds the hive and then fertilizes the whole
    garden as a side-effect.

    "Help out and pray."
Listen to what people need.  Serve.  Respond.  Listen to the compassion they are calling
out for. Pray for others -- to be blessed, but not to convert them to your religion!

    "Judge Not"
"Judge no one until you have walked a mile in his mocassins." an old Indian saying.

    quotations

~ Before the voice can speak in the presence of the Masters it must have lost the power to
    wound.

    ~ 1. Kill out ambition.
      2. Kill out desire of life.
      3. Kill out desire of comfort.
      4. Work as those work who are ambitious.
Respect life as those do who desire it.
Be happy as those are who live for happiness.

~ Desire to sow no seed for your own harvesting; desire only to sow that seed the fruit of
    which shall feed the world.

El Morya in LIGHT ON THE PATH, given thru Mabel Collins

    "Three Mice Approached a Hermit"

"Three mice approached a hermit, encouraged by his motionlessness.
He addressed each one in turn:
"You live in the flour. It provides enough food for all your tribe,
yet you did not become more generous.
"You have chosen to live amidst many books, and have gnawed through great numbers
    of them,
yet you did not grow wiser.
"You have lived amidst sacred objects,
yet did not become more spiritual.
"Verily, mice, you could be human.
Just like people, you debase the treasures that are given to you."

Three lions then came to the hermit. He addressed each one in turn:
"You have just now killed a traveler who was hastening to his family.
"You have robbed a blind woman of her only sheep.
"You have destroyed the steed of an important messenger.
    "Lions, you could be human.
Brandish your terrifying manes and wage war,
but do not be surprised if you find people to be even more cruel than yourselves."

Three doves came flying to the hermit. He addressed each one in turn:
"You have consumed grain not your own and have considered it yours.
"You have consumed a healing plant, yet are revered as a sacred bird.
"You have wrongfully nested in a temple and,
taking advantage of the superstition of others,
have enticed them to feel obliged to feed you.
"Verily, doves, you could be humans.
Making use of the superstition and bigotry of others will plentifully feed you."

#408 El Morya in AGNI YOGA, given thru Helena Roerich

    187. Agni Yoga must be introduced into life, but its bearers must not differ externally
from others in life. The Agni Yogi lives unnoticed. He needs no human distinctions.

    231. It is not persecution that one should fear, but popularity. This must be repeated
    again and again.

    191. It is too early to concern oneself with the downfall of the planet when one has
not yet recognized one's own downfall.  One should first cure one's own wounds, then
    walk with those who labor.

He who strives unceasingly for the higher knowledge will be unwaveringly vigilant.

    226. The manifestation of corruption in the Subtle World impedes humanity from
proceeding steadily toward perfection.  But the Subtle World is corrupted by the
earthly world; thus, the healing must begin from the earthly world.

    303. Man should be told, "Do not weaken yourself; discontent, doubt, self-pity, all
    consume the psychic energy."

    179. Even when facing the greatest battle, we must continue to follow our usual daily
plan [meditative disciplines]. It would not be correct for a battle to disrupt the
current of life.  Battle is our destiny, and one must simply include it in the daily plan

    Helena Roerich

"Many of the righteous" hate and condemn.  But I say to you, the adulterous
who does not hate will be better in the Judgement day will be better than the
"righteous" who condemn."    Questions of Mary

"Now set us discuss SELF-ANALYSIS.  What people call sins is not the main point.  Sins are
nothing but manifestations of our vices -- features of the character, qualities of the soul.  Sins
help recognizing vices, but it is vices that one has to struggle against, not sins. And this is not
    a one day work.

In order to discern better a particular vice in oneself, it would be useful to trace all
manisfestations of this vice that occurred in the past -- all sins of this line that started from
childhood.  And when this work is done, God may give one a chance to look into one's past
lives in order to see the  vice's roots originating there...

We have to feel compassion not for ourselves, but for our victims -- all those whom we made
suffer physically or emotionally.  And then we have to re-live with the consciousness through
each situaltion anew, but this time correctly.

If it is possible to redress the wrong in some way -- even partly -- we must certainly do it.  If
we ask forgiveness from God while ignoring an existing possibility to redress the wrong that
we did we cannot expect a positive result...

The second direction of the initial spiritual work is refinement of the consciousness.  It starts
with correction of the emotional sphere: refraining from coarse negative emotions and
fostering subtle positive ones, as well as accustoming oneself to paradisical states of
    consciousness instead of hellish ones.
